History
Built in 1930 to a 1920's design by Scott Payne. Construction was by The British Power Boat Co.. Originally called WHYTELEAF II, it was owned by Lloyds broker, Mr Fred White. It was built to compete in the Detroit News trophy races in 1931 which took place at Southampton in July 1931. Later WHYTELEAF II took part in races on the River Thames and in the USA. In 1936 the boat was bought by Mr Derek Tinker and Mr J E Lumb and renamed WHITE LADY II. It had a brief successful racing career on Windermere. On 20 June 1937 whilst racing WHITE LADY II sank in 120 feet of water. Derek Tinker was rescued from the boat by his wife. The vessel was salvaged in 1982 and was restored to working order by the Windermere Steamboat Museum. GH Nov 2011
