History
Built by the Disappearing Propellor Boat Co at Port Carling, Ontario, Canada in 1924. Claimed to be the Ford Model T of the motorboat world, Dispro boats were produced for 44 years in Canada and the USA. The company turned out over 500 boats a year and they exported all over the world. The boat propellor and shaft retract if the skeg hits obstruction. It is believed this boat, UNCLE SAM, was shipped to England when new. It was stored in a barn near Windermere for many years before being taken to the Windermere Steamboat Museum for restoration. It was restored to working condition with assistance from the Dispro Boat Association in Canada. It is believed to be the only Dispro boat in existence outside North America. Significance Very original, amazing range of original fittings remain. GH Sep 2010
