History

The Hilbre class yacht was designed by Alan Buchanan and the first boat was built by Williams and Dixon of Deganwy, Anglesey in 1958. It was one of the last classes of wooden clinker day boats to be built before the flood of GRP yachts. HIPPARCUS was built in Anglesey in 1966 for the Navigation Department of the Riversdale College of Technology and was usually sailed in the Mersey. She was acquired by the Merseyside Maritime Museum in 1989. November 2007
