History
Built about 1900, almost certainly in the Mersey area. Every Mersey Flat (a local cargo carrier) had a tender or Cock Boat. In emergencies these were the flatmens’ lifeboats, but otherwise they were used for running lines ashore or between other vessels. They were usually towed astern of the ‘mother’ vessel and normally would have been built at the same yard as that vessel. This boat was found in a shed in Hornby Dock in 1980 and presented to the Merseyside Maritime Museum by the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company. November 2007
