History

ELISE is No 17 of the Wivenhoe One Design class of dinghy. This began on the 18th March 1935 being formally adopted by the Wivenhoe Sailing Club Committee, designed by Dr Walter Radcliffe. 16 of the original pre-war boats are still within the locality of Wivenhoe, including ELISE. There was a big resurgence of interest and enthusiasm in the 1980's and 90's following the establishment of the WOD Association in 1978. ELISE was brought back to Wivenhoe from Brightlingsea by Pat Hatch and John Lay-Fleurie who raced her with great keenness and success in 1981, winning the WOD Cup for points scored over a whole season. ELISE is at present being restored after 8 years of neglect. Split, rotten planking is being replaced. New timbers will be fitted, as well as new floors, deck beams, carlins, coaming and deck. New mast and boom will be made. Planned to be relaunched in 2013. Ref. article in Classic Boat No 112, June 2008 p.101 'The Wivenhoe One Design' 20/11/2012 NRJ
