History
SONIA was built by Dowty Marine in 1962 as a 14ft 6in Dowty Turbocraft. This fast runabout was powered by a 2.5ltr Ford petrol engine driving a Dowty-Hamilton Marine Jet propulsion unit The complete lack of any underwater appendages beneath the hull, lively performance and outstanding manoeuvrability makes jet boats ideal for use in shallow water. Other versions of the Dowty Turbocraft were produced in Canada and the USA. Was photographed and measured at the Museum. Collection has since been dispersed and location of vessel is unknown.
